Today is the first day of Navratri! Navratri is celebrated to rejoice the victory of good over evil. These dates are fixed according to the lunar calendar of Hinduism. These 9 days celebrate the 9 avatars of goddess Durga and each day signifies something and that’s why on these days, devotees wear specific colours each day. If you want to celebrate this by wearing these specific colours, here’s a list of colours for each day, and which avatar it honours, according to mythology. And hey, if you’re looking for inspo on how to style these colours in the coolest way, here are a few celebrity OOTD’s to help you out!
1. 10th October 2018 (Royal Blue)
The first day honours the Shailputri avatar of goddess Durga. Since this year the first day falls on a Wednesday, we celebrate by wearing royal blue. Go desi like Kareena Kapoor and Alia Bhatt or glam up like Malaika Arora!
2. 11th October 2018 (Yellow)
The second day is dedicated to Maa Bramhacharini who is the goddess of spiritual knowledge. We celebrate it by wearing yellow. Yellow is such a bright colour and florals go so perfectly with it. If you’re a solid colour kinda gal, try out the sporty style like Malaika.
3. 12th October 2018 (Green)
This day is dedicated to the Chandraghanta avatar of goddess Durga who carries a half moon on her forehead. She is worshipped for bravery and courage. On this day, we wear green. We loved Anushka Sharma‘s desi look, which is perfect for the festive season.
4. 13th October 2018 (Grey)
Goddess Kushmanda is celebrated on this day for prosperity and creativity. So, the clarity of grey suits this day. Keep your cool with different shades of grey and dress casually.
5. 14th October 2018 (Orange)
Goddess Skandamata is worshipped for her perfection and purity. On this day, we wear orange. Wear a fun jacket or accessorise your orange ganji like Parineeti Chopra.
6. 15th October 2018 (White)
On this day the colour white is worn to honour Devi Katyayani. Dress up in a chic jumpsuit like Kareena or go absolutely desi like Karisma!
7. 16th October 2018 (Red)
On the 7th day of Navratri, Devi Kaalratri is celebrated by wearing red. The vibrant hue is a festive colour in itself and hence has a greater significance. We love that jumpsuit on Anushka but we also love the traditional route Katrina has taken.
8. 17th October 2018 (Sky Blue)
On this day we celebrate Goddess Mahagauri who represents hope, peace and serenity, which is synonymous with sky blue. This colour is so pleasant to look at and calming too. Be comfortable today like these pretty ladies in their athleisure ensemble.
9. 18th October 2018 (Pink)
On the ninth day of Navratri, we celebrate the Siddhidatri avatar of goddess Durga. This day is commemorated for the fulfilment of the other 8 days. On the last day, we wear the colour pink and we suggest you go full traditional like Alia, Kareena and Jacqueline!
Let the festivities begin with bold, bright and fun colours this season. Happy Navratri everyone! And tell us your favourite colour in the comments below.
