DC Universe introduced its upcoming video service to viewers in a live stream hosted by Kevin Smith this evening, who brought a whole host of announcements about the streaming platform. The service is scheduled to launch on September 15th, while the first original show, Titans, will premiere at New York Comic Con on October 3rd, and will come to the service on the streaming service on October 12th.
The streaming service is designed as a one-stop-shop for all things DC, and it’ll allow members to draw from a huge library of TV, film, and comics. Warner Bros. announced the platform last year, which would come with a slate of original live-action and animated shows (as well as a daily news program) to draw viewers to the service. It’ll also have a wide range of classic TV shows, including Lois and Clark, as well as an HD remastered version of Batman: The Animated Series.
During the broadcast, Smith interviewed Jim Lee, DC’s chief operating officer, who showed off some new images of Titans and revealed that the show would help launch another original show, Doom Patrol. “We have the creative freedom to tell a really dark version of Swamp Man,” Lee noted. Titans will receive its premiere at New York Comic Con on October 3rd, and it will then come to the service on October 12th, with new episodes arriving on DC Universe each Friday.
Among the other revelations that Smith brought to the show was a clip of the upcoming third season of the animated show Young Justice. (The first two seasons ran in 2011 and 2012). He also introduced the hosts for the platform’s news program DC Daily, Tiffany Smith and Hector Navarro. Smith also revealed that subscribers can watch the service on two devices at once and that the larger library of content will be refreshed each month, beyond its weekly and daily shows.
The platform’s launch date will coincide with “Batman Day,” a day created by the company to promote all things DC. The service will run subscribers $7.99 a month, or $74.99 for 15 months (the first three months are free). Subscribers who sign up before the September 15th date will be entered into a contest to win a tour of Warner Bros.’s studios and a ride in the batmobile. Subscribers will also get a physical omnibus edition of The New Teen Titans mailed to them.
